People Tree & Emma Watson
I came across this on my Fair trade travels last night and thought it was worth sharing.
People Tree is a pioneering fair trade and sustainable fashion brand devoted to creating stylish fashion without compromising on social ethics.
In 2010 they collaborated with actress Emma Watson to create what was then their latest collection of glamorous clothing.
In the video you see the journey that Emma takes with Safia Minney (founder of People Tree) in Bangladesh.
Beginning in one of the most deprived slums in the country, they highlight the poor conditions that some people are pressured to work in. Its alarming.
The video takes you on a creative journey showing you the different stages of production and techniques used. It’s lovely to see.
Later Emma arrives at the work premises of the women that work for People Tree where they employ an impressive 200 women, providing them with opportunities to showcase their skills and make a living for themselves. Its fantastic.
Its also a stark reminder of the massive difference that buying fair trade clothes – gifts, food, anything for that matter – can truly make.
The change that it has on a person life, on a community and ultimately on the world is huge.
I love the ethos of this brand!
They believe that, “Fair Trade is about creating a new way of doing business, creating access to markets and opportunities for people who live in the developing world. For every beautiful garment People Tree makes, there’s an equally beautiful change happening somewhere in the world.”
I adore that! It’s so special and resonates with our efforts here at Pearl Grace.
Fancy knowing more about fabulous fair trade fashion. Head on over to People Tree HERE!
Stay sweet x
